Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a highly experienced Chief/Senior Estimator who brings a positive can-do attitude to work every day. You will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase by providing a thorough understanding of the local market. You have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to provide accurate and comprehensive cost estimates. You enjoy solving problems and taking initiative. You take pride in building relationships and are adaptable to changing environments. 

Qualifications + Attributes

  • Completion of diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related post-secondary program.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of construction estimating experience.
  • In-depth understanding of the local Vancouver market.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven capability in fostering relationships with clients, trades and team members.
  • Interpersonal skills that positively impact relationships amongst cross functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in computerized estimating programs and various takeoff software (OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam).
  • Strong understanding of multi-family, mixed use construction.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to clearly understand the scope and requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, subcontractors, clients and partners to gather and report critical project information.
  • Perform comprehensive quantity take-offs and prepare detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and associated project costs.
  • Evaluate and negotiate bids and proposals from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitiveness and value.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, unit prices, and historical cost data for future reference and consistency in estimating.
  • Present cost estimate reports and findings to senior management and key stakeholders, providing clear insights into project cost structures.
  • Support ongoing projects by monitoring budgets and offering cost-control solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify cost-saving and value engineering opportunities, making recommendations to enhance project efficiency.
  • Stay informed on best practices, industry trends, and market conditions.

Salary Range

The Senior Estimator salary range is $120,000 - $170,000. The exact compensation offered will be entirely dependent upon education & training, years of relevant experience, and internal equity.

Carpenter

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Carpenter to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of residential and commercial carpentry practices, a commitment to craftsmanship, and the ability to work collaboratively on active construction sites. As a Carpenter at Darwin, you will contribute to the quality and execution of our projects through hands-on work and attention to detail.

Qualifications + Attributes

  • 3+ years of carpentry experience in residential or commercial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project plans.
  • Good work ethic and positive attitude, with a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Experience using a variety of power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A desire to grow within a supportive, well-established organization.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Perform rough and finish carpentry work on a variety of construction sites.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials.
  • Install doors, windows, framing, drywall, siding, formwork, and other structural components.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, and verbal instructions to complete high-quality carpentry work.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site.
  • Communicate effectively with site supervisors and other trades to ensure projects are completed to standard and on schedule.
  • Participate in safety meetings and follow all health and safety guidelines.

Salary 

The Carpenter wage range is $30.00–$40.00 per hour, depending entirely on experience. This is a full-time position, with a minimum of 40 hours per week and the possibility of overtime as available.

Finishing Superintendent

We are looking for a Finishing Superintendent to join our team in Squamish, BC. Your primary responsibility is to support the Lead Site Superintendent and Project Manager in successful completion of assigned projects. You bring a positive attitude and energy to work every day. You are an exceptional communicator and can participate in overseeing job safety, quality control and project scheduling. You are organized, you like to be busy, and are adaptable to changing environments. You enjoy solving problems and taking initiative. You take pride in building relationships, with trades and consultants. You have a passion for learning and a desire to progress your career with an industry-leading team. 

Qualifications + Attributes

  • A solid understanding of construction practices, job safety requirements, planning & scheduling, sequencing of work and relevant technology.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, high performance, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications and building codes.
  • Familiar with contract verbiage and the ability to decipher contents and scope of work.
  • Proficiency with technology is an asset; MS Project, Procore.
  • Passionate about building quality products and orchestrating intricate sites.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager and Site Superintendent in managing site operations and logistics.
  • Plan and implement schedules in collaboration with the Lead Site Superintendent.
  • Supervise and coordinate the interior finishing sub-trades. Maintain schedule targets on a floor-by-floor basis.
  • Implement and enforce strict quality control standards to ensure that finishing work meets design specifications.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and communication with clients, coworkers, consultants, subcontractors, and neighbours.
  • Ensure the adherence to all required safety policies on site.
  • Participate in review of all project documents for constructability and content, including shop drawings.
  • Maintain and update project records including RFI’s, Changes and as-builts.
  • Coordinate deliveries, storage and material protection.
  • Coordinate building inspections, subcontractor inspections and field reviews.
  • Produce daily site reports highlighting milestones, progress and flag issues/concerns.
  • Attend consultant meetings and Project Management meetings.

We are seeking a dedicated and Skilled General Labourer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. As a Skilled General Labourer, you will play a crucial role in supporting various construction and maintenance projects, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.

Qualifications + Attributes

  • Good work ethic and attitude.
  • A general understanding of drawings, reading plans, and the ability to measure materials accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a keen eye to identify issues or problems before they arise.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of hand tools, power tools, heavy-duty machinery, and equipment.
  • A desire to build and grow your career within a well-established organization.
  • Willingness and ability to perform the required tasks (lifting, carrying, moving materials up to 50lbs.)

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Perform general labour tasks including loading, unloading, and moving materials as needed.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of job sites, ensuring all equipment is properly stored and maintained.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Follow safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
  • Collaborate with other workers to complete projects on time while adhering to quality standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas throughout the duration of projects.
  • Attending safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientations to better understand the safety aspect of each site.
  • Working with the site superintendent to receive and complete tasks as required.

Salary 

The General Labourer rate is $25/hour. This role is a full-time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week and the possibility of overtime if available.
